Denison, Iowa had it's 3rd Annual BBQ Festival September 16-17, 2016. Wise Monkey Quilting sponsered it's 1st Annual Smokin Hot Quilt Show in conjunction with the BBQ Festival and I think overall it was a success.
We had 70 quilts commissioned by area quilters to display during the show and they were all so beautiful. We had a little bit of everything from applique quilts to modern to paper pieced.
We encouraged the public who visited our show to vote for their favorite quilt and I am so happy that most of the quilts in the show received a vote. We must have had something for everyone!!
Our youngest quilter to display a quilt was I believe 17 and the oldest quilters was 94 and just finished the quilt at 11:30 the night before so she could bring it. I sure hope I am still rushing to finished a quilt for a show when I am 94.
The winner of the quilt show was Marsha Lindstrom from Kiron and this was only the 3rd quilt she had ever done. It was done in 30's fabric and called "Vintage Moments".
2nd place went to Sharon Kruse with a quilt called "Calendula Patterdrip's Cottage", a beautiful quilt colored with regular crayons and then heat set into place.
3rd place went to our oldest quilter with a quilt called "Over the Fence" and consisted of several embroidery blocks of flowers set on a green background with prairie points all along the binding.
